Any ideas where I can find a thermometer with gumstix and Windows embedded compatibility? I want to play around with making my own thermostat.

Also I would be interested in any resources that point to other compatible accessories.

I reformatted the rest of the flash, and everything went OK.

Slightly off topic,
What if I have a Verdex, do I use the same SRecord file? if No, then how do I go back to u-boot?

no, if you got to the JFFS2 prompt U-Boot has been re-loaded OK.

The upper memory locations of flash just are not formatted to support the linux file system.
I believe there are some commands in uboot to reformat.

Hi all,
I have Win CE 6.0 on my Basix. I used to boot from an MMC resident image.
Now I need to go back to Linux.

I followed these steps exactly:

1. Connect HyperTerminal to the FF uart port (Stuart little or other).
2. Set to 115200 N,8,1.
3. Bring up we-boot.
4. 9                          :edit memory
5. f a2000000 ffffffff 98304 :fill 98304 DWORDS (3 blocks) at address a2000000 with ffffffff (flash erased value)
6. x                          :quit
7. 6                          :select the FFUART (SRecord) as the primary download device
8. d                          :download image now
9. >A2000000                  :offset of A2000000 when added to the base address of 00000000 (examine the u-boot.srec file to verify base address, you may need different numbers here. Addresses are in the 5th - 12th character positions of the S3 records) wraps to become a destination load address of A2000000 which is the RAM buffer
10. Hit return and you should see:
Download SRecord file with offset A2000000
Waiting for SRecord file...
Error com timeout.
Waiting for SRecord file...
Select "Transfer" and "Send Text File..." from the Hyperterminal menu bar.
Select the *.* file type, browse and select the u-boot.srec file.
File should load printing "." across the screen.
When finished:
11. u                         :Unlock boot blocks (3.1 and up)
2. 9                         :edit memory
13. e 0 3                     :erase first 3 flash blocks
14. p 0 a2000000 768          :program 768 sectors (512 bytes/sector which is 3 blocks or 393216 bytes) starting at sector 0 (reset location) using buffer at a2000000
15. x                         :quit
16. r                         :reset

Unfortunately, I ended up with an error:

Scanning JFFS2 FS: . done.
find_inode failed for name=boot
load: Failed to find inode
### JFFS2 LOAD ERROR<0> for boot/uImage!

Lately, I re-loaded we-boot over u-boot and I'm now running Win CE 6.0 image from MMC.

I suspect I made made some mistake here:

I did not understand this step completely. I made no changes in (u-boot_1_1_4 offset a2000000.srec) I just sent it there as is.

Any help this problem is deeply appreciated.

Hello i have a verdex XM4-BT, witha a netwifimicrosd and a consolelcd-vx and a samsung LCD, so i did make the step by step for starting wince from the SD card but says nex:

What is happening?

I just started working on Gumstix platform. I have Gumstix starter pack which includes the following.

verdex XM4,• console-vx• netmicroSD• USB gender bender• USB cable• serial null-modem cable•

I need to build the NK.BIN image instead of using the pre-built one. It would be great help to me if any one can let me know which BSP I can use for building the NK.BIN image.

we are using GumStix verdex PF 270 platform and BSP GS270Rel posted on the GumStix site. we are trying to build NK.bin image with the above BSP and we are getting unresolved linking errors kitl.dll not found and EbootRegs.lib could not make. can you please suggest us which version of BSP we should use to generate the NK.bin image successfully.

while doing makeimg giving error cannot find kitl.dll.

do anyone have any idea.

I am trying to get the cmd.exe to input/output over serial.
The serial port is also used by the kernel with OEMInitDebugSerial(void)

Is it possible to use both? Should I shut off the debug serial?

Ok.
I'm getting somewhere I think.

For CE 6.0 platform newbies... Here's how to download an NK.BIN in srecord file format (.sre) and program it to the flash.
first clear out ram with ff's
9
f a2000000 ffffffff 98304
x
set download mechanism to SREC with:
6 until FFUART (SREC) shows
d (start download)
enter the address:
e5600000

open "tera term" and send the .sre text file (you should see '.' for about 30 mins if working ) (for my 14 meg file)

when done, enter memory edit mode with
9

now erase all of NK.BIN flash area with e <start blk> <end blk>:
e 3 119

now program flash with p <start sec> <address> <numsecs>:
p 300 a2000000 <numsecs> (for numsecs, take your image size/512 and round up by 1) (for my 14924700 byte image I got 29150)

now finish with:
x (to exit memory mode)
s (to save settings)
r (to reset)

What threw me off was the e5600000 address. I was trying to enter a2000000

Here are some changes I think should be made:

3) Why enter sectors? Just ask the user for total bytes and do the conversion for them.
4) What about a write downloaded image to flash option? It does erase & program in one step base on last downloaded size and address?

But thats just me. :)

Hi all. First of all, I think its great someone is working on a bsp for the gumstix!
I successfully put weboot on my pxa225 stick. Everything was looking good.

But, (Always a but) no matter what I try, I cannot get an NK.bin uploaded to the stick. 14.4meg image.

I only have a serial connection. Does someone have a guide to do this?

I'm attempting to debug a simple socket server on David's Gumstix1/2 images. I'm using VS2005 with a debug session established.

The only time a client can connect to the target is if there is outgoing TCP/IP traffic from the target.

For instance I setup an ping with -n -1. Initially it does not respond.

I then open Internet Explorer up on the target. The ping starts to respond. When ping is responding I can connect to my socket server via telnet. After a short period of inactivity the ping stops responding. At which point the telnet connection flakes out.

Any ideas on this behavior?

Hi!

My gumstix (basix 200, console-st) doesn't recognize the MMC when weboot boots. But if I hit SPACE in order to get the weboot menu, and press 'r' (RESET), then the gumstix recognizes it. This is a problem, because when the gumstix doesn't recognize the MMC card, then there is no Storage Card in WinCE, and the Startup folder doesn't execute.

By the way, the gumstix does recognize the SD card. But the cons about it is that the SD card gets out from the case.

Any suggestion?

Hi!

I have a Waysmall 200 (basix motherboard, 200mhz, with console-st expansion board), and I've finished installing Win CE 6.0 successfully, viewing it with the remote desktop.

I need to use both serial ports in my application, but I see that the FF-UART, through Hyperterminal, shows the boot sequence. And if I go to Settings > Network and Dial-up Connections, and try to create a new direct connection, I only have one com port.

What do I need to do in order to have both com ports available?
